OTTA SMALL HOURS

South Londoners Otta released an addictive and refreshing single entitled 'small hours' on indie label Slow Dance, in preparation for their 5 track debut EP after it all blew over which is to come out on Warp Records. Otta explains that the new EP is "inspired by classic songwritingI was listening to a lot of old pop music at the time, as well as experimenting with electronic and ambient music". In the new single 'small hours', you can hear an array of musical influences, which is partly what makes the song so fantastic. Keyboards play jazzy runs, distorted stabs on electric guitar are reminiscent of Arctic Monkeys, along with lyrics like "you said you’d become a scumbag". The production resembles something from a Frank Ocean record - both experimental and concise. The beats and bass lie somewhere more in the electronic/ ambient world, which is pleasantly unconventional, combined with the distorted live guitar. The vocals are both moreishly breathy, and wonderfully organic, leaving us excited to hear what Otta's debut will bring. - Ellie Rose-Davies
